A MEETS and B MEETS

Robin Hood Swim Team is part of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL). MSCL swim teams are assigned to Divisions (A through O) based on their record from scored meets each season. Each Division has 6 teams from all over the County, which can change every season.

In 2026, Robin Hood is in Division C and the other pools in our Division this year are Manchester Farms, Clarksburg Village, Regency Estates, Bannockburn, and Franklin Knolls.  We will have a Times Trial Meet, 5 “A” meets, 4 “B” meets, an A Relay Carnival, a B Relay Carnival and a Divisionals Meet this Summer.  We will host Time Trials, 2 “A” meets and 3 “B” meets. The rest of our swim meets will be “away” hosted by other pools.

  • The Time Trials Meet is the first one and only includes Robin Hood swimmers. All swimmers are invited to swim and will be entered in any event they are able to swim. The purpose of the meet is to get times for everyone at the beginning of the season.
  • The A” meets are on Saturday mornings. These are scored meets against other teams in our Division according to a schedule set by MCSL. Swimmers can earn points depending on how they place. The coach decides every week who will be swimming in the “A” meet, but it will generally be swimmers with the fastest times in specific strokes who are available to swim. The line-up for the “A” meet is shared with parents/swimmers by Thursday morning before the meet.
  • The “B” Meets are on Wednesday evenings. These are not scored meets and are swum against another team from any Division. We pick our “B” meets and usually schedule them against local pools nearby. Although they are not “scored”, we do record official times for each swimmer which can be used to qualify the swimmer to swim in an “A” meet later. The more a swimmer’s times and strokes improve, the greater likelihood that they could be entered in an “A” Meet. Any swimmer can swim in a “B” meet.
  • A complete list of all meets is on the Robin Hood Swim and Dive team website and is posted and shared with families at the beginning of every season.
  • Please note there are no “A” or “B” swimmers – ALL swimmers are part of the team and are encouraged to attend any meets even if they are not in the line-up swimming so they can cheer on their teammates!
  • You never know when Coach will put a swimmer into an “A” meet. So, please remember to update your swimmer’s availability for every week of the season on Swim Topia!

PARENT/GUARDIAN ROLE

It truly takes a village to run a swim meet, and we need tons of volunteers! We require everyone to sign up for a volunteer shift when they register their swimmer, but request that a parent/guardian volunteer for a MINIMUM of 3 meets per season per swimmer (but in reality, we need far more support than that). Volunteers can help set up/clean up, be timers, sell concessions, be officials (if certified) and so much more. Each week an email will remind you to please sign up to volunteer, but the sign-ups can be found anytime on our team’s calendar on the website (rhteams.swimtopia.com).

OTHER MEETS

Robin Hood swimmers may also participate in additional meets throughout the season if they qualify or have top times. These meets include:

  • Coaches Long Course: Run by MCSL for swimmers across all MCSL Divisions who have certain qualifying times. Eight swimmers plus two alternates for each event from each age group are invited to the meet based on a swimmer’s best time from the corresponding event in the first 3 Dual A meets of the season.
  • Relay CarnivalThe "A" Relay Carnival is a scored meet with other teams in our Division usually held on a Sunday morning. This meet only has relay events and any swimmer on the team could be entered in a relay (even if they do not “normally” swim in “A” meets). A tentative line up for A Relays is done the Thursday before the A Relay Carnival and finalized the Saturday before the meet. This summer we will also have a “B” Relay Carnival which is not scored and will allow all swimmers to participate in the fun of relays.
  • Divisionals Meet:  This meet is the culmination of our season for our Division. The fastest swimmers from each team in our Division are entered in the meet. The line up for this meet is not set until after the last “A” meet.
  • All Star Relays Meet This meet is run by MCSL for teams with top times in relays from the A Relay Carnival meets for all Divisions. Any MCSL team may participate in this meet if one of their relays qualifies.
  • All Star Individuals Meet: This is the last MCSL meet of the season. The fastest swimmers across all Divisions of MCSL compete against the best across the league! The qualifying times are announced by MCSL mid-season and posted and updated on the MCSL website.

THE FUN STUFF

The summer swim season is really all about fun! In addition to meets and practice, to add to the experience, we plan lots of activities for swimmers to do as a team!

  • Pep Rallies** Every Friday at 6:30 pm the whole team gathers at the pool for a themed Pep Rally. Themes are announced in advance and we encourage ALL swimmers (whether they are swimming in the A or B meet that week) to come out! Pep rallies usually take about 30-45 minutes.
  • Fun Fridays: *Some Fridays after morning practice we have a team event, such as going to a movie, bowling and other activities. We will share information about any event in our weekly emails.
  • Team Breakfast and Picture Day: We host a team breakfast and picture day early in the season every Summer at the pool. This is a fun morning for the team to share an enormous breakfast together, get their team and individual pictures taken, and then enjoy games in the pool.
  • Team Lunch/Dinner: ** After “A” Meets, we have lunch together somewhere! If it’s an away “A” meet, we announce the location before the meet, and if it’s a home “A” meet, we plan a lunch at our pool. For “B” Meets, we sell dinner at the meet. All swimmers and parents/guardians are welcome at team lunch/dinner.
  • Team Banquet: We end our season with an awards banquet. This is a highlight of the season and a time for all swimmers to be recognized for their achievements. We also have slide show with photographs taken by everyone during the season!
  • Awards: Swimmers get recognized throughout the season for best times and performance at meets. At the Team Banquet swimmers also get a trophy, and specific awards are given for the top 3 scoring girls and boys in each age group. The coaches also give other awards for various other things like Most Improved, Hardest Worker, Leadership and Team Spirit.
  • Hershey Park** The week following the Team Banquet, we pick a day to head to Hershey Park. It is important for all parents to know that this is NOT a chaperoned trip.

** Adult supervision during these swim team events follows the RH Swim Club guidelines, so a responsible adult should be present for children 11 and under. The coaches are happy to make sure everyone is having fun but are not there to supervise or chaperone individual children.
